Course Description

Course Content:
Using technology to learn about the outdoors. Many tasks are projects done in the computer room. Using the internet and other sources to design and present projects on:
• Weather
• Survival
Building an emergency shelter
Finding food in the wild
How to behave when lost
How to build fire
• Outdoor citizenship
The course does have a practical side where you will get to experience:
• Orienteering
• Mountain biking
These are done locally using our awesome local resources such as the wetlands and Mountain Bike tracks.
We will spend a day learning First Aid.
The course also has a camp where we pack many outdoor activities into 3 days.
• Kayaking
• Sailing
• High ropes
• Rowing
• History of Waikato’s great lake (Karapiro)
• The flora and fauna of the Waikato region
• Rock climbing
• Abseiling
• Archery
On this camp the students will learn how to pack and what to wear when venturing into the outdoors. They will also cook for themselves and their group on camp cookers. Accommodation is tents, so they will also learn the art of erecting a tent and sleeping in the outdoors.
The camp is the highlight of the course and involves a lot of responsibility and trust, therefore the camp is only for those who have proven their maturity and trustworthiness during the course. For those who are unable to demonstrate the required character a PARTIAL refund of course cost ($250) is available.

Please note that some days, when doing practical pursuits, we may finish later that 3.05. Also lunchtimes and intervals may well be used.
